From January 12, 2024, E.ON will be opening the doors of its Group headquarters for a very special event: for the first time, the energy company will be hosting a public art bazaar for eight days with over 1,400 works of art by regional and international artists such as Otmar Alt and many others.
Leonhard Birnbaum, Chairman of the E.ON Board of Management: "Art has long been an important link between our company, our employees and the people. With our art bazaar, we are doing something new that has never been done before in this form. We will donate all the proceeds from the sale of the artworks."
From paintings, works on paper and photographs, posters, sculptures and historical maps to porcelain and ceramics - art lovers and collectors can purchase works worth between 20 and 2,000 euros at the public sales exhibition in an informal art bazaar atmosphere.
"Before the works are stored away and forgotten, now is the time for a change of ownership. Art deserves to have a place where it is valued and recognized," says Dorothee von Posadowsky, Head of the E.ON Art Collection. "The values are set in such a way that it is now a good opportunity for anyone to buy art."With the takeover of innogy by E.ON in 2020, the E.ON Art Collection also faced new challenges. With a particular focus on promoting regional artists, RWE and innogy have purchased numerous works of art for their company premises over the decades. These works of art are now going on display to the general public.
The "Art Bazaar" invites visitors to go on a discovery tour through the history and art of the Ruhr metropolis and to take their new favorite work of art home with them. Accompanied by public guided tours and an art talk, the corporate headquarters will be transformed into a gallery for over 1,400 works for more than a week.
The artists have lived and worked in our region, which is known worldwide for its dense network of art and cultural institutions, universities, studios and galleries. The works of art for sale are accompanied by explanatory texts.
The sales exhibition, which is an open day at E.ON, will be a special event in Essen and the surrounding area. Above all because many people once worked or work at RWE, innogy, Ruhrgas or E.ON and know the pictures from their professional lives. Like the Dortmund lawyer Dr. Peter Gentges, former HR manager at RWE Energy and innogy, who is particularly fascinated by the Dortmund painter Günter Rückert: "I remember Rückert's works well, they hung in various places in Dortmund. As I have been interested in these works for a long time and like them very much, I am now delighted to have this unique opportunity to acquire them privately!"
