Christmas magic in large format: MACO 1927 is transformed into a vertical fir forest

Christmas magic in Cologne's city centre: the MACO 1927 building, a project by Art-Invest Real Estate, has transformed its façade into a glowing eye-catcher. Since 29 November, 65 Nordmann fir trees have adorned the windows of the building on Turiner Strasse, creating a vertical Christmas tree forest that can be admired from the street.

65 fir trees with changing lights

The trees come from a regional tree nursery in Kaarst, 13 fir trees are around 2.5 metres tall, the remaining 52 measure between 1.5 and 2 metres. The lighting is provided by a Frechen-based master craftsman who equips each fir tree with festive fairy lights. Particularly exciting: the lighting varies during the event. The fairy lights change according to special occasions - for example, when FC Köln has a home game - and thus shine in the colours of the city of Cologne.

‘With our vertical Christmas forest, we are bringing a bit of Christmas magic into people's everyday lives and at the same time creating a place for people to meet and enjoy each other. We are delighted to be implementing this project together with regional partners and to pass the trees on to the neighbourhood once they have been installed,’ says Sébastien Herzog, project manager and senior investment manager at Art-Invest Real Estate.

Christmas for the neighbourhood

The installation has been on display since 29 November and ends on 18 December. But the Christmas trees will be given a second life: On 18 December, residents and Cologne residents can take the Christmas trees home themselves. From 4 pm to 6 pm, the 65 trees will be given away on a first come, first served basis, complete with fairy lights and tree stands. Anyone who secures a tree saves themselves a trip to the tree merchant and ensures that the trees are reused sustainably.

MACO 1927 - A building with a history and a future

MACO 1927 at Machabäerstraße 19-27 combines historical substance with modern sustainability. Built in 1927, the building is being developed by Art-Invest Real Estate into a future-orientated office and work location. Flexible workspaces, co-working areas and catering facilities are being created on around 17,000 m². A 700 m² roof terrace, energy-efficient construction and the use of wood as the main building material make MACO 1927 a flagship project in Cologne.
